The Cabinet of Curiosities

Long before the internet connected our world, the "Cabinet of Curiosities" served as the original database of human wonder. In the 17th and 18th centuries, while many country gentlemen were out hunting or shooting, a different breed of explorer stayed indoors. These collectors filled rooms, known as Wunderkammern, with fossils, exotic taxidermy, scientific instruments, and artifacts from distant lands. It was an attempt to categorize the chaos of nature and display the marvels of the universe in a single room.
